Afternoon -
KT called me this morning and said Robin was doing well, like yesterday. Trach surgery is tomorrow (no time yet) and the PICC will be done then. Her platelets were over 50 (which they need it to be +50 for surgery) and they will be giving her more today.

Regarding Platelet Donation:
I went to Florida Blood Centers Headquarters for my appointment this morning. The appointment was smooth; they were expecting me and had the information about Robin's account. Unfortunately, they did hold firm on the requirement that a donor have a platelet count of 150. Mine was 144 and I was not allowed to donate. The nurse did not encourage me to try again. She explained that even if you meet the minimum 110 pound requirement, if you are smaller and have a lower plateley count, the machine will not likely get a full donation from you. So even if I went in next week and had another platelet count done and it was over 150, I would probably not yield a full donation. She said my efforts would be better spent encouraging others to donate.
It does take several days from donation to the time Robin would actually get the platelets. So those of you who can should get an appointment.
On another note: When I visited Robin this morning she seemed to be doing quite well. She did express her nervousness about the trach procedure tomorrow and asked me to pray with her. We should all pray for Robin to feel peace and calm through the procedure tomorrow and that it be a success. I am sure she will continue to get stronger!
Kathy, sorry to hear they didn't get a donation from you... I am upto bat on Friday for platelets. Crossing my fingers for that, but don't expext to have any weight issues on my end...
Hopefully Robin is going to keep building more on her own...
Keep the faith!
PLATELETS - What are they, Why do we need them, ......?????
In very laymen type terms here is what platelets do for you and I:
The human body does not handle excessive blood loss well. Therefore, the body has ways of protecting itself. If, for some unexpected reason, sudden blood loss occurs, the blood platelets kick into action.
Platelets are irregularly-shaped, colorless bodies that are present in blood. Their sticky surface lets them, along with other substances, form clots to stop bleeding.
When bleeding from a wound suddenly occurs, the platelets gather at the wound and attempt to block the blood flow. The mineral calcium, vitamin K, and a protein called fibrinogen help the platelets form a clot.
Check out this site for a ton more information about platelets:

I am so happy to hear that Robin is doing better. I was so very worried after my visit on Sunday. Whoever sees Robin today or tomorrow please give her my love and tell her I will be praying for a successful procedure tomorrow with the trach surgery.

PICC line and Trach surgery tomorrow at the same time....1pm is what I heard.
We had a full crowd there tonight! Katelyn, Chris' sister Kathy, Mom Alice, Jackie P., and myself...
Robin was glad to have a full room of people. She wanted to talk badly. She was making all kinds of symbols and gestures for us to guess what she was trying to say. We couldn't get her the writing board fast enough! She was very interested in the night she first went in and where everyone was and how we all got to know where she was. She seemed to think she remembered seeing Katelyn the night of her emergency surgery, but she was heavily drugged. So don't know for sure if she remembers or just because we told her yesterday of the same story?
She is fine with the surgery tomorrow. She would rather go home (i.e. by the way, that is what she wants for "Mother's Day") though.
She really wants to see Anthony and Alyssa. So after tomorrow's surgery the nurse will make the arrangements.
Her heart rate was a strong 85+bpm for the entire time we were there. I forgot to ask how the heart sonogram went... :(
We thought her spirit was good and fiesty and she wanted her legs moved a little from time to time.
I did notice that the Christmas tree of bags of liquid and beepers were dwindling!!! She only had three to four bags hanging down - where it used to be at least 8!
Platelets are 57k+. Pray they stay up for the surgery tomorrow!
Praying for Robin's surgery tomorrow. Hopefully it will all go well. Thanks for all the updates, she is blessed with so many who love her, then again she deserves it, for being the great person she is. lots of love to those who love her so much! GOD BLESS!
