Robin is back at South Seminole. My favorite nurse was taking care of her today. But they've all been good so far. I talked to her surgeon. He was talking again about wanting to feed her through her stomach tube - we'll see. She's also on about the lowest respirator setting, so they said she may come off of that soon. She's heavily sedated, which is probably good right now because she is having stomach pain when she's awake. She's gained about 40lbs of liquid weight. Her right arm was more swollen than her left.
Apparently, any one of 3 doctors can order platelets for her. Dr. Alonso is the Attending Physician so I would use him. You have to make an appointment to give platelets and it takes 1.5 - 2 hours from what I've heard.

Katelyn and I just came home from visiting Robin tonight. She was alert and knew we were there. She of course wanted water. She also tried to write a question for us. Between Katelyn and I guessing, we figured out what "W R I" meant - "Where Am I". We told her she was back at South Seminole Hospital, but I couldn't tell her why she left ORMC (I didn't know why). Anyway, nurse Sarah was working till 9pm tonight. She was in the room when we first got there. She is very nice, but was tired because she had been there all day. Her and the other nurse took her blood/sugar levels due to the nutrients she was receiving and all looked perfect. Later another nurse came in and took some basic tests. She said all is good. I asked if she needed more sedation medicine, and she said that if Robin was in distress that they would increase the sedative. The breathing mechanism is giving her help and two cycles per minute. So Robin is doing more work on breathing on her own! She also said that Robin might not breath deeply because of the stomach surgery, so they will only pull the resporator away after some tests that they can run.
Robin was glad to see Katelyn and she told her Mom that she loves her when we said goodnight...
Hi Chris, I've been trying to call for a few hours but my phone service has been out. I'll keep in touch by the blog.
thanks, Rick
thanks for the update. Chris, please keep the strength up. Robin had an incredible Saturday, it is only natural for her to have changes gonig on, think of the stress she has been through. She will continue to fight and you are awsome!
just some info i downloaded from the FL Blood center:
A directed donor is a blood donor who wishes his or her unit of blood to go to a specific patient. All directed donors must meet all regular donor criteria without exception. To be a directed donor, you must know the following: name of patient, birth date of patient, proposed date of blood usage, patient's physician, patient's hospital, and patient's social security number. Donations must be made no more than 21 days prior to expected patient use and no less than 72 hours prior to patient use.
Platelets, the smallest blood cells, are the part of the blood that help it to clot. Platelets are vital to patients with leukemia and other cancers, patients undergoing open heart surgery, and those in need of bone marrow and organ transplants. During an apheresis platelet donation, the donor can donate six to ten times more platelets than during a whole blood donation. So instead of a patient receiving six units of platelets from six different donors, he or she can receive the same amount of platelets from just one donor. The entire process takes approximately 90 minutes. Platelet donations can be made as often as every two weeks.
Hi Chris, I wanted to let you know that we all appreciate your efforts to keep this Blog going. We know you have a lot on your mind right now, and this is just one more thing that you need to do. I have been gone all weekend, but plan on visiting Robin in the morning. I look forward to seeing her again. Thank you, Chris, for all you are doing, for both Robin and us!
Anybody that visited Robin today, did you hear what was her platelet count today? The nurse that was in while I was there did not know. She only did the blood/sugar test.
Chris, Robin is a fighter, i'm glad she was able to speak to Katelyn, she loves her children so much and for them and you I know she will fight through this. Thanks for keeping us informed, believe me, coming from someone this far away it's truly appreciated. Take care , hugs and kisses to you, Robin and the kids.
Love you all
LiseAnne
There is a new cancer treatment that is developing. It does not use chemo or radiation. It uses radiowaves. Here is an article about the inventor's invention:

It may be something to look into?
