Tuesday May 8th, 2007

So far this morning she is resting okay. Kathy may get to talk to the doctors this mornming and then I will have another update.
Platelet donations are now set up for friends. The account # is 290982. Make an appointment.
There are many Florida Blood Center locations throughout the state. I don't know for sure that if you are in a non-local county that they can transfer the blood. You will have to ask when you make the appointment.

I made an appointment for tomorrow and found out the following information:

They prefer if you have a platelet count done first. (I actually spoke to two people and the first person said it was required, the second said it was prefered.) The only place that can do the platelet count and platelet donation in the same day is the Headquarter location. Otherwise, you will have to have the platelet count done and then wait a day or two to donate. I am going to the HQ location just in case they end up requiring the platelet count.

Make sure that the location you pick does platelet donations. Not all do. Altamonte and Apopka, for example, do NOT have the equipment for platelet donation. In Seminole County, Oviedo and Winter Springs do. The downtown Orlando and the HQ locations also do. (Orange County)

Allow up to two hours for your appointment--maybe longer if you have to have the platelet count done. Also, do not have any aspirin or ibuprofen for two days before you donate.

The HQ location seemed the most knowlegable, and that is where the original order for Robin is. The doctor did not order type specific platelets. So you do not need to be type B+ or O+ to donate.

I will comment again after my appointment tomorrow to give feedback on the process.

I had my platelet count done and they are only 143. They need to be up to 150 at least for anyone to donate. I will try again next week since it does go up and down.
thank you for the regular updates. It makes us feel closer to Robin.
Love, Magda
